Descrizione

Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) for the reconstruction of horizontal and vertical bone defects is based on the principle that hard tissues should be regenerated according to the prosthetic design required to restore the anatomy and function of the lost dentition.

One of the key challenges in the clinical decision-making process is determining the appropriate size of the membrane, whether resorbable membranes are used for horizontal defects or non-resorbable membranes for combined horizontal and vertical defects. But what should actually determine the dimensions of a membrane?

During this workshop, a decision-making protocol will be presented that shifts the focus from the empirical selection of the “largest possible membrane” to a prosthetically driven and volumetrically determined approach. Digital planning allows the clinician to define the target regenerative volume and translate the prosthetic objective into a precise three-dimensional surgical design, thereby guiding the selection of membrane dimensions and the amount and distribution of the grafting material.

Following the introductory lecture, the workshop will include a practical hands-on session using 3D-printed anatomical models and animal anatomical specimens, allowing participants to apply the principles discussed and gain practical experience with GBR techniques using barrier membranes and autogenous bone grafts.

The aim of the workshop is to demonstrate how the integration of digital technologies can transform GBR from a predominantly experience-based procedure into a precisely planned, prosthetically driven and biologically oriented regenerative workflow.
